Fans of The Handsome Family might be quite excited by this piece of news.
The Handsome Family are going to work in Road Records (16B Fade Street, Dublin 2) next Tuesday 2nd June from 4.30pm until 6pm. They'll be serving customers and doing their utmost to sell their own (and even other acts’) records.
“Honey Moon” is the Handsome Family's eighth studio release, it celebrates the duo's twentieth year of marriage with a series of love songs that sharply contrast the dark themes of their previous seven releases
This weeks highlights include
- Beautiful Unit [aka ex Idiot and Trust Me I’m A Thief head honcho Brian Mooney] has just released his debut album. Sixteen years in the making, the album even features an unreleased Idiots track.
- The first four Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds albums have just been remastered and reissued on Mute Records.
- The new Jarvis Cocker album is on special offer this week for only €12.99 on cd and €17.99 on double vinyl.
- The Doves album “Kingdom Of Rust” is finally in stock on double vinyl.

Fake, nathan-Hard islands-Nathan fake returns after a two year break with a brand new six track collection on the border community label. This is by far his most uptempo collection so far moving away from the dreamy late night sounscapes to an album of much more beat driven dancefloor sounds. Falling somewhere between the abstract sounds of aphex twin and the lush electro vibes of boards of canada this is definitely an album for the feet rather than the head this time. Horrors-Primary colours-The horrors return after a two year break since their debut album strange house with a new album and a distinctly different more polished sound. The album kicks off with a big thunderous piece of darkly gothic tinged new wave indie rock coming across like my bloody valentine jamming with interpol. There is still plenty of their early garage rock influences in here with heaps of energy filled fuzzed up post punk sounds but these guys have added so many new elements to their overall sound that its hard to believe its the same band. The album features lots of slowed down guitar effects, sleazy organs and echoing sound effects. There are certain tracks that kind of evoke the spirit of joy division with a slightly more raw garage rock feel. Its a real step forward and a damn fine album too. The albums spans a period going back to their earliest sessions from 2002 with the creek drank the cradle right up to the shepherds dog sessions from 2007. The first half of the album features a collection of hushed home recordings featuring unedited and totally raw recordings. The second half of the collection highlights tracks captured in the confines of several studios with fellow musicians. Around the well also brings together a couple of hard to find covers including waitin for superman by the flaming lips and love vigilantes by new order. The album also features one of their earliest originals sacred vision. The album comes packaged in a lovely three part foldout sleeve with full colour booklet. Junior boys-Begone dull care-Junior boys return after a long break with another infectiously catchy collection of soulful electro pop sounds. Features lots of throbbing eighties like synth pop sounds with the perfectly soulful vocals of jeremy greenspan really standing out on this one. Kind of sounds like kraftwerk on a total pop like buzz with lots of lush seventies soulful vocals thrown over the top. Harvey, pj and john parish-A woman a man walked by-Pj harvey teams up again with long time collaborator john parish for this brand new collection. The last time this pair worked together as joint songwriter was dance hall at louse point back in 1996. Parish has worked with harvey on a few albums since but not as co writer. The album bursts out with recent single black hearted love featuring lots of fuzzed up guitars before settling down into a somewhat more folky like vibe. The album has a lovely dark almost gothic like feel about it with lots of dramatic bursts of energy as only harvey knows how to do. The album has hints of classic sixties underground pop whilst also taking in a bit of early nineties shoegazing dream pop. The band recorded this album entirely live in the studio using tons of old analog equipment. The resulting album falls somewhere between the classic electronic sounds of kraftwerk and pulsating eighties electro pop. Tricca, emma-Minor white-Italian born and london based singer songwriter releases her debut album for the finders keepers offshoot label bird. The album features a really lovely collection of rustic old time folk sounds with a similar kind of haunting beauty to the likes of marissa nadler or vashti bunyan. The majority of the album features just tricca and gently picked acoustic guitar. Feeney, julie-Pages [this album will ship out to you on the 5th of june]-The second album from irish based julie feeney. The follow up to the choice music prize winning debut album 13 songs from 2005. The album was performed and produced almost entirely by feeney herself. The album also features a full orchestra conducted by julie. This is probably one of the more original collections from an irish artist that we have heard all year so far. The album has the lush orchestal feel of the last joanna newsom album scored by van dyke parks with lots of dramatic bursts and at times an almost broadway like feel. Add in a bit of the kooky off kilter pop sounds of kate bush and you are only getting close. Feeney uses the orchestral and brass sounds to simply accentuate her quirky vocal delivery. The album is like some modern classical pop record with moments bordering on some old musicals and plenty more inbetween.
